LAHORE: The two police officials convicted in Benazir Bhutto muder case have challenged the verdict announced by anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench.
Police officers CPO Saud Aziz and SP Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad were sentenced to 17 years of prison for ‘neg
ligence’ under Sections 119 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code and were ord
ered to pay a fine of 0.5million rupees each.
Aziz’s lawyer asserted
that former Prime Minister’s husband Asif Ali Zardari had not allowed Aziz to carry out the postmortem of Benazir Bhutto.
The verdict of the case also declared former President General (rtd) Pervez Musharraf to be a proclaimed offender due to
his absence from t
he court and aquitted five accused due to lack of evidence.
